📖 How to Play
  • Swipe (mobile) or arrow keys / WASD (desktop) to slide all tiles together
  • Matching numbers merge into their double: 2+2=4, 4+4=8, 8+8=16 …
  • Every move spawns a new tile (a 2 or 4) on an empty cell
  • Reach the 2048 tile to win — then keep going for a higher score
  • Game over when the board is full and no moves are possible
  • Use Undo to take back your last move (great for learning)

About this game

2048 is the number puzzle where you swipe to slide every tile at once and merge matching values — 2+2=4, 4+4=8, and so on up to the golden 2048 tile. The rules take five seconds to learn, but because the board fills up as you play, it rewards thinking a few moves ahead.

Every move spawns a new tile (a 2 or a 4) on a free cell, so wasted moves actively make your position worse. The standard strategy is to park your largest tile in a corner and never break that anchor.

This version includes a beginner tutorial and an undo button so you can learn from mistakes instead of restarting. Reaching 2048 doesn't end the run — keep merging for a bigger tile and a higher score.

Tips & strategy

  • Anchor your biggest tile in a corner and restrict yourself to two directions (say up and left) so the anchor never moves
  • Build a descending 'staircase' along one row or column — it lets merges cascade instead of stalling
  • Avoid using all four directions. Banning 'down' in particular keeps your corner tile locked in place
  • Once the board is more than half full, prioritise merging over positioning — dropping below two free cells is usually fatal
  • Undo is most valuable right after you miss a big merge, not as a last resort when you're already stuck
  • Before each swipe, take a beat to picture how the whole board will shift

FAQ

Q. How do you win 2048?

A. Create a single tile showing 2048. You can keep playing afterwards to chase 4096 and a higher score.

Q. When is it game over?

A. When the board is completely full and no move in any direction would merge two tiles.

Q. What are the controls?

A. Swipe up/down/left/right on mobile, or use the arrow keys or WASD on desktop. One input slides every tile on the board.

Q. Is it really free?

A. Yes — no signup, no install, no payment. Submitting a score to the global leaderboard is free too.

Q. Is reaching 2048 hard?

A. It takes practice, but it's very achievable once you keep your largest tile anchored in a corner. The undo button lets you learn from bad moves instead of restarting.
